Get To Know About Obtaining A Class K Permit In Kenya
INTRODUCTION
The Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act requires that for any person to remain or enter Kenya, they must hold a valid pass or permit.
A Class K permit is one of the qualifying permits in Kenya. Below is a brief of what a Class K permit is and the steps one needs to undertake to obtain one.
WHAT IS A CLASS K PERMIT?
A Class K Permit is issued to persons who want to reside in Kenya as ordainary residents, and whose presence in Kenya will be of benefit to Kenya.
RESTRICTIONS
It is important to note that a CLASS K permit grants one entry and residency in Kenya, however one is not allowed to accept employment, paid or unpaid, or engage in any income generating activity without a relevant permit.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO OBTAIN A CLASS K PERMIT IN KENYA?
To be eligible to obtain a Class K permit in Kenya one has to be not less than thirty five (35) years of age and has an assured annual income of not less than USD 24,000, an amount which is from other sources of income other than any trade, occupation, employment, business or profession as referred in the other classes or permits.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION OF A CLASS K PERMIT
- Form 25;
- Detailed and signed cover letter from organization/self/employer addressed to the Director of Immigration Services;
- Copies of valid passport;
- Two (2) passport size photographs with a clear white background;
- Current Immigration status if in Kenya;
- Copy of any previous permits/passes held;
- Documentary proof of annual assured income of USD. 24,000;
- Required processing fee.
Once all the required documents are obtained, the application has to be submitted to the Immigration online eFNS portal as well as physically at the Immigration offices.
Once the Class K permit has been approved, the applicant shall then be required to pay the Government issuance fees, and submit other accompanying documents such as the security bond and proof of payment.
Once submitted, the e-permit shall be issued, and one can proceed to apply for an Alien ID Card.
